You know you have a friend, spouse, co-worker, friend, or other loved one who has received bariatric surgery. What you may not know is that you play an extremely important part in the success as they enter a new, exciting, but challenging time in their life. A person who receives bariatric surgery must also make drastic lifestyle changes, which will inevitably impact those around them.
This is a space for you... the friend, co-worker, or loved one...to share your experiences, advice, frustrations, and joys being in the life of someone who has received bariatric surgery.
Some questions to address:
What has been frustrating in dealing with changes in this person's life?
How have you dealt with them?
What was successful? What wasn't?
What is difficult about the experience?
What is exciting?
Do you ever wish you had handled a situation differently?
Do you do the same things you used to do with this person, or have your activities change?
Do you have any suggestions as to how to replace previous food-related activities you engaged in together?
How has your involvement changed your own exercise or eating habits?
